Hermes partipates in GISS 2026

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS 2026) concluded today in Marrakech, bringing together 1,450 participants from 101 States. The event aimed to strengthen global aviation systems in line with ICAO’s strategic plan for 2050, which is anchored in the “No Country Left Behind” initiative and envisions air transport for all, with zero fatalities and net-zero carbon emissions.

Over the course of three days, the Symposium delivered a range of commitments, partnerships, and implementation initiatives focused on enhancing aviation safety, security, sustainability, and connectivity worldwide. Particular emphasis was placed on supporting all States in effectively implementing ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs).

During the event, Dr. Iatrou, Director General of Hermes, met with Toshiyuki Onuma, President of the ICAO Council. Their constructive discussion focused on the future of global aviation, with special emphasis on education and capacity building—key pillars of the 2026 Hermes Recommendations. On this occasion, Dr. Iatrou presented a copy of the book Air Transport Milestones.

In addition, Dr. Iatrou held a meeting with Juan Carlos Salazar, Secretary General of ICAO, further strengthening dialogue on advancing international cooperation and strategic initiatives within the aviation sector.

These high-level engagements underscore Hermes continued commitment to promoting innovation, education, and sustainable development in global aviation.
